Should you outsource your market research?

Yes … to me! OK … just kidding (but if you are thinking about it … CONTACT ME!)
My real answer is: it depends.

Let me ask you: What is your time worth? Is your time better spent doing other things (i.e. marketing your product?)

Another question is: Do you like doing research?

I have to tell you, I LOVE RESEARCH! Why? I am sick!!

The reason I like research is that I love finding information. I am an information junkie! Anyone that has seen my Social Madness document know that….my wife can confirm my sickness with finding and keeping anything and everything.

I think of myself as an information detective … an information broker.

Ok, I will stop yammering ;-)

Think about this when deciding on either doing research yourself or outsourcing it:

Advantages of Outsourcing:
- It can free up your time to do other things.
- Researchers (for the most part) know how to best structure a search
- Researchers typically can find information quicker than you can

Disadvantages of Outsourcing:
- You are depending on someone else to “interpret” sometimes what you really want to find out.
- It does cost money! You are paying for someone’s time (not necessarily results)
- You may not end up with exactly what you were looking for
- Sometimes, the information does not exist, or there is not enough of it.
- When you do your own research, it can lead you to find even better niches…whereas if you outsource it, you won’t be exposed to those other possibilities.
- Finding a person you trust and once you find someone…can you really trust them?

Do you have to outsource your research? NO. You can do it all yourself. BUT … is it in your best interest, knowledge-wise and time-wise, to outsource? Only you know the answer to that!

I hope this helps and I wish you the best!

Dave
